what is the best libation to strum to ???

Post by Iceman on Sat Feb 26, 2011 5:08 pm

Barry's reply to a post about what Westone we would lust after intrigued me. Not so much the guitar but his choice of beverage enjoyed while chillin' with one of his guitars. So I says to myself, I says "What would be the best libation in that situation??" So....... whaddya think?

On that occasion it was a very good scotch...often a favourite beverage, you know, when I can afford it.
But I'm not a booze Nazi. I will swill down whatever's available What a Face
For example, right now I'm enjoying some Ontario Cabernet Merlot while watching it snow...again. Neutral

Don't worry Barry - It's cheap'n nasty Brandy and I'm pissed on it right now!!

The Coke masks the awfulness of the Brandy.

Having said that - it's not real Coke. It is a cheap'n nasty Coke-alike, but the Brandy masks it's awfulness.

I have been drinking this for about 25years, but I stopped for a bite to eat once.

Take care and love you all !!

Beer. Guinness prefered, but most will do. I can play La Villa Strangiato much easier after 3 beers.

Well, Talisker, obviously! Laughing Laughing Actually I stopped drinking onstage after hearing a tape that the soundman did at a gig where I was drinking and thought I was playing well..... I wasn't. (Self realisation was never one of my strong points!)

But I don't drink booze much at all these days, and find a cup of coffee as good as anything when just piddling about with a guitar! Laughing

Sounds like I have a kindred spirit... cheap brandy + coke. We have more than guitars in common!

When funds are good, single malt of whatever vintage. Don't like the peated phenolic muck, more like something which could clean drains.

After a GAS attack Lidl "brandy" + coke does the job. Also OK glugged in coffee. This is actually the perfect diet to sustain human life as it contains all four of the main food groups; caffeine, sugar, fat and alcohol clown

I'm really torn on this one. At first I'm pretty sure I threw up in my mouth. The only way I can drink cheap brandy is with water and a touch of cranberry. Then after I rallied I gotta give the man his due, the 4 food groups thing I find myself warming up to.

Its worth it if youre into whisky. Trust me. All it needs is a drop or two of water and youre homefree.

Likewise the old Caols are good IMO. Their 16yr old is a gem as far as im concerned while their regulars...not so much. Kind of like Laph 10. Simply to mundane for some reason.

I seem to remember the French trying to ban sales of absinthe on account of regular drinkers going blind, evil stuff.

Absinthe?!?!?! Feeling half sick just thinking about it.

Reminds me of horrible, horrible nights in the olden days. We'd put the sugar cubes on the old absinthe spoon, pour a little absinthe over it, and light it on fire. The sugar melts into the drink below, and when it's all done burning, you stir the rest of the sugar into the absinthe and "enjoy". I use that term loosely. Very, very loosely! Maybe it's better in light doses?

For those of you who haven't "enjoyed" absinthe yet, here is the very accurate progression you'll go through... Smile Neutral Shocked pale Embarassed silent followed by an unpleasant daze and sweating.

I'm glad the old days are over!!!

I usually don't meet a scotch or brandy that I don't like, but Metaxa is one of 'em. There is something in either the water or soil that gives the Greek spirits an odd (to me) after taste which I don't care for (Ouzo excepted drunken)

Canadian Club - straight from the plastic bottle, followed by a chaser of Sundrop over ice. I used to use Mt. Dew, but it's so sweet and syrupy. Sundrop is much more citrusy and really knocks out that whiskey taste. If you time your breathing right, you never taste the whiskey.

Short of intravenous or enema, this method gets the alcohol into your bloodstream the quickest. And I don't get hangovers either - something to do with the caffeine and sugar in the chaser.

Do I have a problem?

I found myself with a gout problem a few months ago and have given up alcohol (and beef, pork, and shellfish). I don't miss it near as much as tobacco (my oldest friend).
