an Original Westone wiring schematic for Thunder IIA (and others)

Post by gittarasaurus on Sat Dec 03, 2011 1:06 pm

i was digging through some boxes of old memorabilia the other day and what should i find :?: Shocked Very Happy

when i originally purchased my Thunder IIA i got a Crate amp along with it. this is the envelope that held the owners manual and warranty card.

and inside of that envelope i found the catalog that i was looking at, that i ordered my guitar from.

AND THEN inside of that i found the schematic drawing for my guitar.

that brought back some details about how i came by my particular guitar.
looking in the catalog i remember now, that i had originally purchased a Thunder I with the ash black finish on the wings. i had to order it from japan and wait about 3 months for it to arrive. i was OK with that......

bounce bounce bounce bounce bounce

and about a week goes by and i get a call from the store manager. he tells me to come to the store and he is going to make me a deal.....

i go to the store and here is the deal.... somebody else bought a Thunder IIA and after 1 day decided not to keep it, and returned it to the store.
i was going to wait for 3 months for my Thunder I, OR.... i could take this one home today, same $$$.....

needless to say......me and my Thunder IIA been a happy couple ever since that day.

with only minor difficulties. which explains the schematic.
on that one day, the other person that had the guitar had wanked on the mini switches so hard that the tops were slightly bent. what i discovered shortly thereafter was the metal was very stressed and ready to break. they must have gotten bent pretty hard, then bent back. maybe that was why they decided to return the guitar, (and did not mention it to anyone).

so after about a month of being gentle as i could, i realized that i could get warranty service on the guitar and have the switches fixed professionally. i returned to the store and they sent the guitar off to be serviced. i am not sure where it actually went for the work, and at this time i can't remember how long it took. i'm sure at the time it seemed like forever. i have never had a single problem with it since then.

when the guitar was returned to me later, the schematic was included. i guess it was provided to me so that any further service could be done by any qualified person. except there are no details on the amplifier circuitry.
the original that i have is on 11" x 17", (a photocopy)

Great find Mike! Thanks for the PM, let's see what we can do to get this up on the 'ole Information site.

If all techs were so kind we would cure guitar wiring related nervous breakdowns in our lifetime...

Extraordinarily good service from the tech! Way above expectations there.
