Kaman gtx 35

Post by wemfender on Wed Apr 04, 2012 4:28 am

I bought a Kaman gtx 35 about two years ago,( not really looking for anything but had gas ) 1990 year of manufacture, absolutely beautifull condition, but I have had little success with information on this guitar, it's Kaman's take on the es335 Gibson, for my opinion a very good effort aswell, trawling the net on the ovation and hamer forums, plus kramer and others, little info, the few snippets I have found, the owners love them, korean made deep red/ dark cherry color, I had a luthier I use give it the once over, fret level etc, changed out the generic kaman buckers for a pair of gfs classic II"s,really smooth sound but can snap and growl bit aswell( as with my thunder when he went over that ) he did not want to give it back, since then word went round on the RGC ( a forum in Romania ) I have recieved a number of un-solicited offers for the guitar, It's one of the family so it's going nowhere ( except Indonesia on my next overseas posting ) I was wondering if anyone has any real info on the Kaman gtx 35 ?
Cheers Steve

Nope. Dunno.
Pix would be the thing needed here Steve. Otherwise we're speculating at best and spinning our wheels.

I will say though that I have a Korean made Aria Pro II TA60 circa mid 90's and it's a keeper, so I don't doubt that yours is a well made instrument.

Barry,
I tried physically adding the pictures into the post but could not for some reason. Just had a look at some Aria pics of your model, not to much different looking at the Aria and Kaman, save for the headstock shapes.
I actually did place some links in this response, tried them , they worked, tried them a second time, just got lots of adds, so I removed the links, I do not know how to physically place the pictures other then they way I did it with 4shared, but the ad did for me. will try again tomorrow.
Cheers Steve.

The easiest way to post pix is to use a hosting site like PhotoBucket and just add the IMG link here. You won't have any success trying to post directly here.

You're welcome. Glad it worked out OK for you!
Nice trans finish. Likely Maple? Gots the Mickey Mouse ears too, so closer to the original design than many clones. Smile
GFS pups are top notch. Good choice.

That's about it. Neutral

Made in Korea, right?

Chances are it was the same guitar as an import Hamer Echotone, just a different badge:
https://www.google.com/search?q=hamer+echotone&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&ei=pzp-T5noO4ae8gSktvGjDg&biw=1600&bih=737&sei=szp-T_KtDZSG8QSJ8Oz-DQ

Hamer was purchased by Kaman in the late 80s. For the most part, their guitar lines remained separate. However, Hamer USA did not have a hollow body like this, it appeared only in the import line...so it wouldn't be impossible for them to be made in the same factory.

http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/45248-kaman-corporation-whats-that-about/

Many people consider the Hamer Echotone to be a pickup change away from a professional-quality instrument. Which sounds like might be the case with your Kaman, too.

Gents, Thank you for the help, had a look at the links ( Brainfertiliser ) some good stuff there, Barry, the gfs pups, I like them very much, I have them in three guitars now, the Kaman has classic II's, Ibanez exr170 has Classic II's with tripleshot mounting rings, and the Thunder 1A with the vintage 59's, ( which I absolutely love ) great bang for the buck, I would not hesitate to put gfs pups in any guitar, putting them in the Kaman really changed the guitar from nice and sounds ok, to nice and sounds great ( my opinion ), I will keep my search for info going on the Kaman,
Cheers steve
