What do you mean by laid away?

Checked Epi Japan wiki and I think the Japanese made for the domestic market are differently
http://www.epiphonewiki.com/index.php?title=Epiphone_Japan outfitted with an L5 tailpiece ...

There certainly has been an Epi connection with Matsumoku.
I have a Mat made FT-150 Bard but don't know anything about this one.
Have you tried asking at the Matsumoku forum ?
It has a section: Epiphone - JAPANESE MODELS ONLY.
http://www.matsumoku.org/ggboard/viewforum.php?f=39&sid=524857b46c75faaa41cce6776d4e057d
Otherwise contact Gibson . They should know.

The underside of the bridge, what does it say? Wooden tom bridge could have been replaced as well.

I was wrong about the tailpiece only being an L-5 type since they did offer it with the one in your pic hence this Japanese catalog !

Cheers, jim

Looks like an amazing guitar to me.
Mats did make the Sheraton model but I'm not sure about this one.
She's a keeper in any case!
