Westone Genesis Bass in Trans Walnut finish Limited Edition[1922-1987]65th Anniversary Model
I got my bass for $125 from the Salvation Army, outside of Boston, on Rt 38 north in Wilmington, Mass.
It was covered in dirt and grime, and the original owner had died. They dropped it off right as I walked in the door. I saw the original case and was curious,Then they opened it up, Rusty strings and all...I knew I had to buy it on the spot. I oiled the finger board with Clarinet Bore oil, polished the body with Carnauba car wax (NO silicone) only pure wax, buffed it to showroom shine, re-strung with new strings, GHS Boomers 45-105, and plugged her in. Sounded great! The Intonation was way off, so I lowered the action and corrected the saddles, for razer perfect intonation up and down the neck. The truss was too loose, giving me way too much neck relief, so 1/3 turn,(120 degrees)and the neck was perfect! Now I was ready to rock! This bass is heavy! Solid Canadian Ash Body in a transparent walnut finish. Total sustain with a neck made from hard rock Maple from Canada. The Rosewood 24 fret(two octave) fingerboard has a carbon Graphite nut on one end, complete with a Magnacast Brass Bridge. The Magnabass III and IV pickups provide punch and clarity. There are 3 tone controls, Master Volume, Neck p/u tone and Bridge p/u tone. There is a 3 way switch:(neck p/u, both or bridge p/u) so it's tonally very versatile. The Body is carved away to allow easy slap technique. The Machines are Trak Wind Deluxe and feel silky smooth. This bass never goes out of tune. It is solid as a rock and has a Jazzy Funky tone perfect for Motown or Sam & Dave. The Bass player for Yngwie Malmsteen's "Rising Force"(Wally Voss) had the same bass.
The offical model is XA6520TWA from 1987. Photos are coming!!Stay tuned!

Wow, very nice, what a deal. I thought about you today, I went past a Salvation Army and stopped in. No guitars. I hit a few pawn shops too, but have never saw a Westone there. I think they're kinda rare here in Indy. When we're playing I'll see people looking at the headstock to see what kind of guitar it is. Some people come up between sets and I'll let them check them out. Good pictures, nice grain. I'm going to get some good close ups of my Westones and post them here.
Happy Holidays,
Brother John

I really need to start stopping into pawn shops and salvation armies and goodwill and the like. Can't believe the beauties you've found! If you ever decide to part with that Raider, let me know.

We are the only people who can spread the truth about Westone and Matsumoku's superiority!
Thanks Polly and Warrn for the great comments. Guitars and Basses, like the ones we have, are the true measure of how Matsumoku was dedicated to the highest level of hand crafted workmanship. What is an artist without their tools to create art? Westone provided, to all the players, the musical Instruments they sought. They delivered the highest level of craftsmanship for the purpose of creating art. You need a driver and a pit crew but the race ultimately is won by the car. These highly collectible instruments and rare axe's are now the stuff of legend, only to grow in value and overall playability. Yes, they are getting better, more broken in, like a fine wine, or a Stradivarius violin. In many ways, Matsumoku was at the right place at the right time! After living in Japan for 4 years in Tokyo, with the AF Band, I have seen so many Aria Pro II's just sitting there that would blow the doors off of any modern Ibanez, or Dean. I'm starting to notice build quality is decreasing with the new generation of Chinese Instruments flooding the USA by way of Guitar Center. Let's not forget Electra also.
Long live Westone!!

Re: Westone Genesis Bass in Trans Walnut finish Limited Edition[1922-1987]65th Anniversary Model
I love that bass - I thought those of us who own Thunder III's enjoy a bit of rarity value these days, but that Genesis bass really is special - it's the first one I've seen since they were first released!
I particularly like the body shape, and the look of the wood - both things that Westone always excelled at. The 24 fret neck is nice too - almost reminds me of the Aria SB basses, but not enough to be confused with one - it really has its own look.
Congratulations on owning such a nice instrument.

genesis bass
Well u will be happy to know ur not alone in owning a genesis bass in mass. I originally had most likely the first one that came to Mass. Bought it at Ricks music world in Seekonk. I bought the burgundy one. Sold it 2 years later and just bought it back today for the same price u paid. They guy i sold it 2 used it once or twice and it has just been collecting dust in his attic. I am just starting to play bass again and decided to search it it out. Lo and behold he still had it and sold it to me for the same 125 u played. The bass is in almost showroom condition except for one ding i put in it way back when. Otherwise zero scratches, looks brand new. I will post pictures once i get it back from being setup. However there may be one issue with it the pickups appear to be corroded and it didnt have any sound , but ill keep my fingers crossed that its something minor. If not i will have to buy a spectrum to replace the pick ups unless someone else has another idea. I will post pictures soon and if u ever decide to sell yous ill drive up and grab it from ya. One side note I should mention that I actually ordered it the day the rep was in the store introducing the guitar to the store for the first time. At first didnt like the color but looking at it today its bad ass and im glad i got it back. Hopefully sound issue will be fixed cheaply lol and ill be rockin with it again. As soon as i get it back ill post some picks for everyone to see.

Nope, sorry - they were peculiar to Westone... like so much other heart-breaking stuff!! - at least yours still has it's knobs!!
I've got a Spectrum GT Bass which has the same p'ups and I like it a lot.
Looking forward to seeing yours, man!!

I've never used a bass with EMGs that didn't sound terrible. I want a Genesis, but I'll find an original one. Nothing with EMGs is worth more than $100 to my ear.
