I have neither owned nor played either (only have a few Thunder 1's at the moment), but I have many set neck Matsumoku guitars and I can thoroughly recommend them.

Might have pull/push switches on the pots as they look like switchmaster type.
Might be an idea to ask for better photos or info. A photo of the back should revel a battery cover.
Either way I've owned and own Thunder II's both active and passive. A great guitar well worth £250 of anyone's dosh. One of Westones best guitars in my view and many others who've played them.
It is an active with active on/off switch and 2 pull/push controls with active EQ. Switchmaster knobs.
Never seen that kind of setup.
