Schecter Scorpion Baritone

Post by TVill25 on Sat Oct 27, 2012 11:55 pm

So I wanted a guitar I could tune B to B and play some different stuff on without modifying my Westones.

Here is my new to me Schecter Diamond series Scorpion Baritone. With a scale length of 26.5. Has Zakk Wylde strings on it 10-60. I think I will trade those out with Elixer Heavy 11- 56 with a wound 3rd string.

Guitar wood wise is in great shape. Neck is great and feels like a spectrum.

This guitar came to me with a emg81 in the bridge and a passive in the neck. Sounded funky. So I currently have it hotrodded to just the volume pot. Sounds much better and with an 18v mod just cuz. Yes I changed out the boring speed knobs with some reverse taper Westone knobs I have "laying around". Cool

If you look closely you'll see that all the screws are very rusty. The whole guitar was like that. The bridge will eventually need replaced. It was so bad that I just cut a can of soda in half and put the bridge in it then filled it with motor oil. Then scrubbed it with a toothbrush.

Very solid nice guitar. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend one. They make a standard length one also.

I use a wound G anyway!! They rule!

Neck is great and feels like a spectrum.

Recommendation indeed!!! Laughing

Interesting guitars, the baritones; I've not played one. The scale length is longer than a concert pitch guitar, yes?

A gibson is a scale length of 24.75 and a fender at 25.5". The Westones are at 25.5". Baritones are from 27 to 30" So this one at 26.5 is almost there. Close enough for me.

And I don't have to modify any of my Westies and close enough not to throw things off too much. Also can avoid a seven string now. I can barely handle six strings.

There are a lot of almost baritones out there.

Very interesting. Not a Westie but it kinda fits the spirit of another thread I started earlier: Mats Baritone?

I guess I'm young at heart because the headstock doesn't bother me.
