Shaftesbury Les Paul Deluxe

Post by hoax on Thu Aug 22, 2013 3:51 pm

Finished this one a couple of months ago. It is another seventies Rose Morris item but higher end than the Avon Melody Maker.

It came to me with no electrics and a neck break. Neck break was not mentioned in listing so I got a good reduction on the price.

Stuck in a pair of Artec mini humbuckers, some full size 500k pots and some 0.01 micro farad capacitors.

Fixed the neck break and it is now solid. Badly needed a refret so it got one.

Just need to get a pick guard and may even put on goof rings like the early LP Deluxe originally had.

Crap pictures (its getting dark)

Sekova Les Paul Deluxe goldtop

Post by gittarasaurus on Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:11 pm

must be something in the air lately...
i just finished up a long overdue project. a Sekova Les Paul Deluxe goldtop.
Very Happy
a previous owner had removed the mini-bucker bridge pickup and installed in it's place a BC Rich humbucker?!?
in the process they took out a chunk of the goldtop lacquer.
it has been sitting in a case for a long time, waiting for me to get everything to put it back together, until this week...

not the original tuning pegs. has anybody seen tuners with markings like these?

i had to make a new output jack plate because the old one was messed up, covered in duct tape and had a big ugly washer. i made the new one from the old pickguard that got hacked up to accommodate the humbucker pickup ring.

and here is the pickup support i needed to replicate (twice)

i bought a new mini humbucker and needed to make a bracket for that one...
i needed a trim ring for it, but the color didn't match the old one, so i got two...
then i messed up the screws removing the old trim ring...
then my new screws didn't match the threads on the old mounting bracket...
so i made a second bracket.
and it is good to go now!

Gotta love the gold tops.
Another nice save Graham!
Mike, the logo on the heads looks a lot like an early Ovation??

Great work Mike!!

I think that your tuners are Schallers.

Hoax

PS Goof rings were used by Gibson on early production Deluxes. Early Jap copies had them too. They are basically trim rings which go outside the pickup surround and hide the pick up route.

Don't they normally display a stylized letter "S" ? This design looks very much like the Ovation iconic "bowl" back.

That's why I thought they were Schallers. The shape is quite distinctive, although I do not know if it is unique. I have a few high end seventies Les Paul copies with these on them

The logos are not dissimilar.I would still suspect that they were made by Schaller.
