Hi Norfolk, Smile

Rotosounds are a good make, try going for the flat wound ones. I think they are a bit more expensive but I've got it on good authority that they are better.

Hope this helps.

Not necessarily better, just different; they have a much more mellow sound is all with less finger squeak. Rule of thumb is round wound for general use, flatwound for jazz and groundwound (roundwounds slightly ground down) for when there's loads of fast fretwork!!! Well, that's my understanding, anyway...

Strings are odd things as we all have our personal preferences, but more important than the brand is the gauge - get what suits your fingers/style - heavier gauges are loud and harder on your fingertips... have a play with the basses in the shop that have different gauges on 'em and see what you like.. I have a spectrum ST, i'd recommend medium or light gauge roundwounds, due to the low output on the pickup flats aren't much good unless your in a band situation, and even then you'l need to EQ it right.

ask for a set of bright rounds, if your a newer player get regular gauge, if you haven't had the bass long a good setup will go a long way also.

DR Fat Beams or Hi-Beams are good.

I always favour Rotosound roundwound nickels. Flatwound too mellow for me. Gauge is important cos if you change it you will need to setup the guitar again.

D'Addario nickel roundwound for me. I like the EXL 190's (40-100 gauge), which, for some strange reason, are quite hard to find in the UK.

?

But anyway... they are inexpensive, good tone, last for a good while if you keep them clean, and they feel nice too.
