my first westone guitar

Post by mig=29 on Mon Jan 13, 2014 12:20 pm

hello all, i just bought a used dana 3 ltd, in the reddest red ive ever seen on any musical instrument. its basically dot safety red. you could wear it around your neck and use it as a hunting vest. black hard ware and lfr. i found it in a used guitar store where it had hung for over a year. i just had to have it. aside from the butt ugly color it had very attractive lines. not happy to be just another strat , jackson , or ibanez clone. im in the process now of setting it up. i have played it very briefly, the neck is like butter. still learning about the active pup and how to capitalize on my style of play which is way more rhythm than lead classic rock and 80s metal. for a korean axe it seems well made much like some of the better schecter models. anyway i want to love this crazy lookin strat and learn what i can about it. cheers.  will try to send a pic

Hello mig=29 and welcome to the forums.
You might like to have a look at our own website here.

For reasons I cannot understand, some of our members keep referring to an old "tombstone" site which is not ours. You will find the latest info, pictures and repair information on our own site as it is supported and contributed to by the membership here.

Mig=29 Mr. Bean,

I've learned a decent amount about these particular guitars.  I have a black Dana II Pro which has recently been set up and refurbed by Dana himself (maybe two years ago).  Mine is Japanese model although most were Korean.  If your Dana is Korean it'll be almost identical to the Alvarez Dana's.

Some info you'll want to read about the Dana guitars...  Click HERE!

And some info about Dana's shop nowadays...  Click HERE!

We need photos.

You can always get to our site very easily by clicking on the website option, next to the westone logo, in the main menu bar at the top of this page.  Wink

You are forgiven my son.
Now, as penance, get out one of yer blue Specky's and rock 'til ya gots blisters on yer fingers!

Wish I could - Tuesday night is band rehearsal night but Mrs Don (lead vocals, keyboards, assorted percussion) was away visiting her parents in New Jersey and the return flight was cancelled so she's coming into Heathrow this evening. Instead of 3 hours of playing I get to spend 4-5 hours on the M4  Sad

Sorry, too...

I guess the old website burned so much into my brain that I just don't remember that we have a new one when I should... Will try to get used to the new one in the future.

It's a hard habit to shake, I understand.

But we've been up and running for a couple of years now, and it is by far, the *ahem* best looking and most current Westone reference out there...because it comes from the boyz and gurlz in here!
Thumb Up

Yep, just like the Alvarez Dana.  My Dana II Pro is a little different, since it's not MIK.   Love the red on yours!  Such a cool design, Dana did a great job.  Especially the head stock.

thank you barry for the help with the pics Very Happy yea, the color is kinda growing on me. what i really like about the guitar so far is she screams yea, im an
80s shredder but im no run of the mill ibanez or charvel. im much more nasty than they are Twisted Evil and the fact that I cant say ive ever seen another westone anywhere hanging on a rack like some used bronze series warlock covered in dust at a pawn shop .

yes i did, congrats on the mij dana. to tell you the truth i thought westone guitars were just some cut rate 80s bargain basement cricket bat with strings. i did not know anyone who played them or owned one. i did used to see some at the local pawn shop several years back. but after owning a few different jacksons, and kramers, mostly low end stuff, i was up for something not main stream. this westone just may be my ticket. if i did not know this guitar was an mik, i would swear to you it was an mij. its that nice. it even goes back in tune after wailing on the floyd.....nice. my jackson dinky did not.

Good to hear.  There's just some good info in those links for anyone interested in the Dana's, that's why I asked.

They are very nice guitars.  There was a white Alvarez version of your guitar at Guitar Center recently for $249, it sold immediately.  They're not cheapies, they were an original design from the ground up from a great luthier (now a Master Luthier) Dana, electronics and all.  Won't get that from a Jackson.  Ever.
