Anyone near Cambridge?

Post by Sgt. Vimes on Fri Mar 14, 2014 4:52 am

Need a kind soul to collect a guitar that's been very high on my most wanted list for years, seller won't post it, I've got £30 over the asking price to make this happen, any help gratefully received and reciprocated if at all possible.

pm sent.

IF this comes together, I will obviously parade her on the forum, although it will have to stay solely in the domain of NON-WESTONE DISCUSSION

Massive thanks to Si aka Meadows for making the trip to collect something I've wanted for many a year, can't wait to get me grubby hands on it!

What is it about a small Japanese in-house brand of guitar that brings so many great people together? time and time again people on this forum are doing great favours for each other, its heart warming so it is, could'nt see that happening too often on strat-talk or TDPRI.

Thanks Meadows, I can tell you're a Geordie at heart!
Thumb Up

No worries, my pleasure Pete and having seen your new aquisition I can see why you hunted one down, pure class and great craftsmanship, lovely guitar.

Yeah, I like this site too, alot. As a Westone novice, I do and will continue to post nieve posts seeking advice and knowledge from the shared collective and to date I have learnt so much from everyone here (thanks guys), not just about the brand but as a player who always gave my guitars to a luthier, now I feel more confident to tackle some of those jobs myself and my perspective and respect for the instrumnet has moved to a new place† Smile

Squier Esprit

Post by Sgt. Vimes on Tue Mar 25, 2014 2:29 pm

2005 Squier Esprit, from the Master series, built in Korea supposedly by the Fender Custom shop, but I think it's a cort build.

MASSIVE THANKS to Meadows for going above and beyond the call of duty to get this to me, Cheers bud!

Barely a mark on this, it's been hung on a wall for around 7 years so only played for 2.
bridge pup seems to be stuck in single coil operation, though that could be the switch or pots, but I've cleaned and cleaned them and no joy yet.
It's not quite set up the way I like em yet, need to polish frets and maybe change the nut, plastic rubbish!
also the saddles are vibrating under the G and B strings which is really annoying, any suggestions to remedy this other than changing the bridge?

the fit and finish on these are superb, barr the nut n saddles, fretboard is lovely, the heel is solid if a little bulky.
Unplugged this really sounds great due to the chambered mahogany body, plugged in the neck pup is meaty, jury is out on the bridge pup so far.

happy †Twisted Evil

Oooh, that's rather nice! Not seen one of them before.

Definitely a bit of a Sid Poole Westone kinda vibe going on with that headstock, too - lovely guitar!

Really nice looking guitar Pete, and a new one on me! The fit and finish look top notch.

Speaking of Cort, one of our regulars brought a Cort built guitar into the shop to sell on consignment. I don't know what the model was, but it was beautifully made, with a natural body finish which exhibited a very sculptured profile, set sculpted neck, and top of the line Wilkinson bridge with roller saddles and nut. The headstock design was pretty much identical to yours IIRC. So your hunch may be right.

My hunch comes from the full size Cor-tec pots..
these came out with the M80, both in the master series, the m80 is a bolt on neck though, still a lovely lookin guitar.

mine's sexier though †Wink

have a looky at some of Cort's latest offerings, very, very nice guitars indeed, I do like the M series.

Wow that does look great cleaned up Pete, glad it arrived in one piece.

Found this earlier, an old Fender Flame, body design very similar

Re: Anyone near Cambridge?

I'm afraid this one has to go, after searching one out for so long and finally getting one it just doesn't fit, talk about deflated dreams! I like the feel, I like the board and it sounds fantastic, but do I want to pick it up and play? no.
I knew after the first couple of days I wasn't going to like it, but I stuck with it and played every day (work worn fingers allowing) but nadda, not a spark....gimme a concord or a thunder any day.
Lots of people online are hating on these duncan designed pups but I don't see why, these HB102 n&b were modeled after the seymour SH-4 JB bridge and SH-2n neck and while I don't have a JB to compare, the jazz neck isn't far off at all maybe the DD has a bit more bite to it, either way it sounds good to me.
If anyone is interested, you know where I am. †Neutral
† EDIT:
I replaced like for like the bridge pup as the original was gooshed, stuck on one coil, original cover still on.
