Sample of Entwistle HVX

Post by jimmydime on Sat Mar 15, 2014 6:04 pm

Hey fellows.

Here is a sample of how my Entwistle HVX's sound in my Spectrum DX. The recording is done through Audacity.
The guitar is run through an amp simulator. Simulation is of a 1959 Fender Tweed Bassman. No pedals, just straight to amp.
Any pops or crackles you hear are from my laptop. The amp simulator and my laptop do not play well together.

In the recordings the first part is the neck pickup, the second part is the bridge.

hope this works alright, don't really know what I'm doing with sound cloud. LOL
Opinions.

To hear the sound of the pickups better.
Do a bridge, then a neck recording.
Both together means they are in parallel with each other and your not getting the 'true' sound of them.

Just to clarify, the first part of the recordings is the neck pickup. The second part is the bridge. You should be able to hear a noticeable difference. No recordings where made in the middle pos.
Perhaps I should have posted separate files for each position.

Oh yeah! never listened properly in the first place.
Sound a bit dead, lacking any dynamic. Maybe the recording.
Not much sustain..

What do you think of the sound, compared to stock?  They're sold at a great price, and have about the same output as an MMK45.  Sound really good to me, sometimes new pickups can be a revelation in a guitar!

Well, my Spectum never had the MMK's. The pups in it where terrible, muddy no clarity and when distorted you couldn't hear a single note.. just terrible.
So the entwistle pickups where a huge improvement. I think they sound great clean and with distortion. You might want to check around on the web for some demo's, mines not the best.
My next set is coming from "guitar parts online".  Let you know how they are once I get them.

cheers.

Since you mentioned them, I've now sent 2 emails to these guys asking for a bit of basic info on their Alnico Strat set which I found interesting and was considering buying.

Nothin'. Nada. Bugger all.
So much for customer service. Doesn't give me confidence in placing an order with them.  Evil or Very Mad

Yes, I have heard that the customer service can be a bit sketchy. If you go on ebay and look for dragon fire pickups, you may have better luck contacting them through there.
I messaged him once through ebay asking them why the shipping price on ebay was lower than the shipping from the online store. Gave me some BS answer about tracking and insurance. I have noticed however that the online store has lowered the shipping to the same as their ebay site.
The set I want to order is the pro series "blues kat" pre-wired with pick guard.
Best of luck..... let me know how you make out.
