It's an addiction.

Post by dustymiller on Mon May 12, 2014 6:02 am

Hi all,

It has been a while since I first joined and posted on the forum but due to a recent spate of hunting for Westone Bass guitars, yes I am a Bass player just 1 above a drummer I know, I am back.

Why oh why are guitars so addictive? I currently have about 9 Basses 3 of which are Westone and are my first choice. Just ahead of a 1980 Ibanez Blazer, so probably made in the Matsumoku factory anyway.

I have:

Thunder 1A: Natural Finish
Raider: Green and Gold Sparkle.....mmmm Sparkles!
Dynasty: Black

Where do I go from here?????

Ben

Spectrum GT or a Pantera? The Spectrum LX Bass with the 2 necks?

I've just re-finished a Raider II in the gold/blue sparkle..... mmmmmm..... yummy!!!

Hi Dustymiller.....can't really go wrong with any Matsumoku gear imo...
I have a Matsumoku made Vox Custom bass which isn't as easy to play as my Thunder 1 but the tone is to die for.
Most of the Westones play great so just bide your time, trawl through the photos and wait til you see something that takes your fancy.....
...or just buy 1 of each and be done with having to choose  Laughing

You need to have representation from the headless group such as a Quantum or Rail.

Fellow bass player and Mats nut here.  I have 4 Westone basses:
Thunder 1A version 3
Thunder 1A version 3 fretless
Thunder Jet, seriously pimped with a MM pickup and J.east preamp.
The daddy - Pantera Deluxe X790 Smile

All mine need to be lightweight, so are all under 9lbs.

I believe that starting to play and collect Aria Pro II basses can lead you on the road to madness.  I have a Laser Heritage which, even though it was a budget model, is really nice.  Last week I gave in to a serious bout of GAS and bought a CSB 380 Black N Gold from Japan that has actually been sitting in Coventry for longer than it took to get from Japan!  I am looking forward to that little beauty arriving.  A lightweight one and medium scale.

Then of course there are some nice Washburns....

Me likey!  Force 4?  How heavy is that?

Edit - I used to have a Washburn Scavenger but it was much too heavy - nearly 11lbs.  Beautiful bass, though.

I have never even heard of an Aria Pro II Interceptor bass!  That is gorgeous.  Not heavy, I guess.  Active?

Not heavy at all. Certainly is active, plays fine, sounds good and is surprisingly comfy playing seated with the thigh cut out.

It's absolutely lovely.  I have a Hohner B2A as a compact back up bass but this is another thing altogether - compact back up bass AND totally gorgeous.  It has moved from 'never seen one' to 'most wanted' in the space of a few hours.  Double ball end strings or a clamp at the head?

If you want to move that on at any time please let me know.  I'll save you all the bother of typing out a 'for sale' post - I can be pretty philanthropic like that sometimes.  Very Happy

Congratulations - Lumbar Award of the Year! Smile

Time was the weight of my gear didn't even enter my mind.  Full Trace Elliot stack with an 18" cab for that trouser-flapping feel.  Then a back injury meant it is the *first* thing I need to know.  Any bass over 9lbs and it doesn't enter the frame.  Now my entire rig weighs less than the old TE head.  Not cheap, mind...

Damian, apologies for not replying sooner, just noticed this post.
Mines coming up to a year, still feels odd but is comfortable and I can reach overhead with no problems. The oddness is odd, cant describe it, possibly because the joint works now and the mind hasn't got used to the change but pain is gone.
Hope yours has now improved, takes a while eh.
