Dynasty decal

Post by sonorafilms on Wed May 14, 2014 12:57 pm

Hi guys, I just bought a nice Dynasty and I'm about to refinish it. As I didn't find any hi-res headstock decal I did a little photoshop work and came out with a pretty decent result. Just wanted to share it with you guys, it could be useful to some Dynasty owners.
Cheers!

Could you make the "Westone" connected?  Right now it's laid out as "We stone".   Know what I mean?

Looks really good, what is the process of getting it from this onto a transfer?

Cool, looks nice and sharp.

I have a similar task ahead, I have the Westone script waterslide decal but not the concordII, my son rekons it's no big deal to scan a headstock, trace out the lettering and turn it into a vector file which can then be stretched as need be without pixellation then printed onto a waterslide paper.
hope so!

Thanks!
Transfering from scan to vector is not that easy and it can take a lot of work if you want it to look perfect. The best solution is to find the original font and start from there.
Here's the link to the one on my Dynasty decal http://www.fontpalace.com/font-details/Trek+TNG+Credits/
It works great.

I'll bet you find that font does exist,, somewhere! I mean, the Westone bods found it, eh!!
I had the same trouble with the Raider decals, so I settled for one that was close enough and did it all in Word, though I exported the bird logo into a graphics suite to change the colour; I found that Word worked just fine for mine re. sizing and general farting about.

You can make this whole drama needlessly complicated, and on occasion I've done just that, so these days I opt for the easiest approach possible to get a result as close as I can without spending endless hours on it, getting the pixels just so, and the colour match exactly, and the sizing exactly right....

Life's far too short...!! Very Happy

Thanks so much for making your design available to the locals, sonorafilms; we do appreciate it!!

Try taking a picture of the Concord logo and run it through this little app http://www.whatfontis.com/ it will show you the best match or even find the right one.
Hope it helps

I'm a big Trek fan, interesting.  I gather you found the TNG font and use it as a template for the Westone font?!  Star Trek TNG was 1987.  Interesting how similar they are.

I think it's important to understand that most logos are more than simply creating a word with a type style. A font may serve as the basis or inspiration but the final product usually involves a large degree of artistic creativity within that original design.

You may come close, but with few exceptions (like the Vantage label which does use an off the shelf type style called Vivaldi) you will not match a custom logo such as Westone's.

Here's the script logo in hi-res. I had to do it by hand because, as Barry said, there's no off-the-shelf type face that can do the trick.
Cheers
