Looking for several parts.

Post by AetasMM0839 on Thu Sep 25, 2014 11:10 pm

Hi all, I'm new here.

Just bought my first Westone guitar in the form of a pearl white Pantera X300. I'd been looking for one for some time now, but I could never find one at the right price before. This week, finally, after 4 some years of searching, I found one with the right price. Well as it turns out, when you buy cheap, you get cheap. What I received is a fully playable guitar, in good enough shape by my standards (despite the many scratches and dings), but it's missing some of the essential parts to make it 100% functional.

I am searching for these parts:
1 Locking nut saddle
3 Locking nut plates
6 Bendmaster fine tuner screws
1 Low E Bendmaster saddle (my claw is broken)
1 Westone logo sticker for the headstock (preferably in red)
and possibly 1 Locking screw in type tremolo nut

The hardware on the guitar is black. I've checked eBay for several of these parts to no avail. Anyone got spares? Or maybe someone has knowledge of interchangeable parts from other more common manufacturers? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance!

-Charles

Welcome here, Charles!

OK, as you've discovered, Bendmaster spares are firmly in the chickens lips category; any that are about are generally in the hands of collectors already!

That said, the locking plates and bolts for the stringlock are available for the price of postage from our very own Sgt. Vimes: PM him!

For an FT bridge, be aware you need 2 lock plates for each position- one above and one below each pair of strings. For a Deluxe, you need to make - or have made! - some plate shaped 1mm thick shims that go underneath the strings.

The fine tuners are just not available at all, but hex headed 4mm(?)x 10mm machine bolts do the trick; I had a model maker friend make some pewter caps for some of the afore-mentioned bolts and they work just fine.

When you talk of broken claws, are you talking about a Bendmaster FT bridge? If so, a visit to Wammi Worlds online store will see you right; they have claws that will do the trick quite nicely with a little cleaning up.

We really need to see this thing to offer meaningful advice; can you post pix to an online photo hosting site and then c + p the links here??

Make your own waterslide decal with the fonts available in here somewhere, and a good quality ink jet printer and waterslide paper available from a good craft shop, or eBay.

Tremelo nut? You mean the collar that the wang bar goes through before engaging the threads in the sustain block? If so, I don't know of any and they are a part peculiar to these bridges...

Thanks for the response! I have uploaded some photos so you have an idea of what I'm working with.

Bridge:

Nut:

(add the https)

As you can see, it is a Bendmaster Deluxe tremolo. I am not totally beyond finding a suitable replacement (someone suggested this one elsewhere: guitarfetish.com/Black-Floyd-Rose-Fastloader-Locking-Tremolo-System_p_110.html#), just so long as it is fully compatible with the guitar's design.

The claws that I speak of are just little "arms" that go over the strings as they emerge from the mounting holes on the bridge. I don't know of any other name for them. As for the locking plates, do you know of anyone in specific that can make these? I don't know anyone in my area that does that kind of metal work. I found the thread for the locking nuts and bolts, by the way. The tremolo nut on my bridge seems like it could be oem, but it's chrome and the rest of the hardware is black, so I don't know for certain. If possible, I may try to replace it with a locking nut from a floyd, that is, depending on whether or not I can replace/will keep the Bendmaster.

I am also look for the hex key holders that are mounted on the back of the headstock. I forgot to mention that in the first post.

Allen key holder right here....

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Guitar-Parts-Floyd-Rose-ALLEN-KEY-HOLDER-SET-for-Headstock-BLACK-/311108812918?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item486f87c076

...not exactly the same as the OEM one, but close enough!!

... though I have to say I don't use them on the guitars I have that are so equipped... I keep the Allen keys in the case!

Ah, I see; that little bar is part and parcel of the saddle, I'm afraid, and yours has been broken off. They are there - as I understand it - to keep the string from coming off the saddle in wild-arse bends. Occasionally individual saddles come up on eBay, but the problem is, the saddles are pre-set for string height and, yep; they're all different!! The bottom E is not the same as any of the others so you have to be a bit careful if you are going to buy one saddle that you get the right one!
Me; I wouldn't worry about it....

Ahhh, yeah; that trem bar collar is OEM, and the ones on the black bridges were, as you can see, chrome. I have painted one or two of mine and they look OK....

Right. The stringlock. You're missing the whole thing, yes?? Then its off to Kahler for you, lad, to purchase one of their behind-the-nut stringlocks....

https://www.kahlerusa.com/locking-nuts-and-string-locks-stringlocks

... the OEM ones are very difficult to find off a guitar, and those that are are generally stripped and require fixing; there's a thread in here about fixing them somewhere but I had one of those Kahlers on my Pantera when I got it and it was probably better than the Bendmaster as they are a little fragile in that overtightening the bolts WILL result in stripping the E/A and D/G threads. That said, because I had spares, I banged a Bendmaster stringlock back on, just because I could!

You know, apart from the missing bits, yours looks to be in pretty good condition, the busted arm notwithstanding; I'd be inclined to live with it for awhile rather than spend the $139 for a new bridge, just to see if there is actually a problem.
