And awa-a-ay we go!

Post by Barry on Wed Sep 23, 2015 4:00 pm

The past few weeks has been mostly pure hell. As those who have moved know, it ain't fun. The crap you accumulate in 10 years is astounding!

I'll spare you all the tortured details but they involve, many aches and pains from packing a million boxes, lifting and lugging, moving furniture, renting trucks and highway driving, plus a whole lot of disruption. All this even before the main move by the moving company. Neutral

On the whole it went about as smoothly as you could hope for, except for our Internet provider who screwed up magnificently. They also provide the TV and telephone service so we've been without any of it for weeks, despite having ordered the bloody changeover and receiving confirmation in August. Same company too! Unbelievable.

We contracted to have a lot of reno's to the new place, and of course, those are not yet complete. Net result of that it that we still have workmen trying to finish bathrooms flooring trim and painting so we can finish unpacking boxes and arrange furniture. Once these guys are done there's still the fireplace and sunroom to complete. We're now looking at (Canadian) Thanksgiving as a deadline. Fingers crossed.

The house will look amazing when it's done and daddy will get an incredible 15' x 30' (4.5m x 9 m) area for all his guitar/IT junk.  What a Face
But right now...it's boxes and stacked furniture No

The biggest saving grace has been the weather which continues to be fantastic for this time of year. Warm and sunny days, cool nights. We are blessed to be surrounded by beautiful huge mature trees, walking trails and lake access, all with a few minutes' walk from our front door. A wonderful change from the frantic pace of Milton which has completely turned into a land of young families producing special children from "magic" sperm, all in a hurry to go nowhere/somewhere.

One of the main reasons for moving was to find a quieter place near the water. That we have!
To whit, a sampling:

One of the many Parks. This one at the end of my street, about 6 houses away:

Another view from the Park:

If you want to get closer to the water, just around the corner is a waterfront trail leading to the small walking beach, which leads to the big main beach up the way with all the amenities and a large treed park.

If you squint, you can pretend you're in [insert favourite tropical locale here]:

Wish you were here:

And so a new phase in my life begins. Likely the final one, cuz I ain't moving again. They can bury me in the back yard garden.

Hey Barry, glad you got in at last and out of the hotel room, the unpacking and positioning is just part of the journey, no rush in the grande scheme of things.

Hope you will all be very happy there, now go and unpack a guitar, crack a beer, strum an old favourite and shoot the breeze, reckon you have earned it bud  Drink Beer

Ta Si.
The guitars are still in rows on the floor and I haven't touched a G string in weeks. (Or years, come to think of it. clown )

My hands have been stiff and sore from everything so it will be awhile before I can get in the groove again. And of course there's a load of stuff to set up ahead of my indulgence.

Wise words. But I think I'm out of steam now.
In my case I've been "decompressing" a little this week, and each time I drop a level on the stress meter more assorted aches and pains appear. Amazing what stress will mask.

And yeah I think we're as close to heaven as we can afford Steve. Summer is going to be remarkable here. Hoping the winter is just as kind to the old bones.

Heh heh heh that's a great idea. Relax take a breather and focus on the prize of the "15 x 30 room" goal. Awesome!

Congrats Barry. You'll be popping that Champagne bottle soon.

The fishing may have to wait until next year. However, I hear that there is a Bass fishing tournament next month. Thinking

And as always, your whim is my command: here's the Google reference.
The street view of the house has not changed much except for a dirty great trash bin filled to overflowing with demolition crud in the driveway!

Very apt name for the Crescent, fantastic location. You certainly get a lot of property for your buck out there, unlike the overpriced rabbit warrens Joe average can afford here in the UK...it goes without saying I really hope you enjoy your new man cave Barry...... Metal Head

Canada is a huge country geographically, but with a thin population that's roughly the size of California.

And we're mostly snugged up against the US border in larger urban cities like Toronto, Vancouver & Montreal. That's where you indeed find it difficult to buy a decent sized property for reasonable $$. Prices are nuts.

But once you go away from these large cities it gets more affordable. Mind you there are lots of expensive properties around us too, mostly on the water, but there are many others which are within grasp.

If you really want a deal and like privacy (and some isolation) there are lots of large acreages to be had the more Northwards you go. Gotta like snow though.

Thanks Graham. I'm not too worried about the virtual tour there are lots of them out there, and the only folk who really look at them are house buyers. The house has completely changed inside now anyway.

As for the contents, it's a peaceful (read older) demographic here whose main concern is dealing with arthritic hips, not home invasion. Rockin' and rollin' ain't on their current radar.

But I have a feeling that shall change! Twisted Evil

Yeah the US border is just a few minutes away now, um, if you don't count the long wait for customs clearance these days.
I hope we get to pop over the line some time soon and shmooze wif my US cuzins.

Hey now!
We've even got flush toilets, and internet on computers too. Razz

When I took those pix it was flippin' gorgeous. This past week though reality is beginning to set in and the weather has become more seasonal (read: overcast, cool, wet and because we're near the lake, windy) Hoping for a sunnier few days coming up.

Funny you should axe. I spent a good chunk of yesterday afternoon finding then assembling racks, shelving and stands, then organizing (sort of) the guitars in the racks. Nothing plugged in yet just "positoned".

Must say, looks good so far, but to answer your question, no, nothing on the walls. There are a lot of windows and a lot of irregular areas on the walls with various juts and angles concealing duct work, electrical panel etc. I prefer them safe in their cases anyway.
Pix to come, you know, eventually...still 2/3 of the room left to organize.

Looks great. My Father is from Buffalo and reports that the winter, and in particular the lake effect snow, can be brutal. Then again he's a wimpy Septic, for a brave Canuck like yourself it'll be t-shirt weather 12 months a year Wink

Thanks Don.
Yeah, poor ole Buffalo gets hammered unmercifully. They are situated at the end of Lake Erie right in the path of the prevailing wind off Lake Erie. It's like having a snow cannon pointed at the city.

Fortunately for us, we're in the "banana belt" to the North and West of there. The climate is much more moderate and there is no wind effect. At least, that's what the neighbours say. We'll see!
