Guitars from different countries??

Post by Shaky fingers on Mon Dec 07, 2015 4:41 pm

A slightly random thought but I realised because of my habit of buying cheap and slightly dodgy guitars, all 5 of my guitars were made in different countries.

So the Westone (not dodgy at all really) is a Japanese guitar actually made in Japan.
My Ibanez although a Japanese make, was made in Korea.
My Shektor which is American by brand was actually made in that guitar building hot bed......Indonesia!
My Gibson SG was actually made in the USA, how odd?
And lastly my acoustic was thrown together in Spain.

I'm English so it would be nice to add an English or British made guitar to the list.... I suspect this could be difficult!

So who's collection covers the most countries?

That list from Westbone takes some beating, but it's interesting to see how some brands have changed countries.
Here's my list:

Japan 5 (Yamaha 2, Westone 2, Ibanez 1)
Taiwan 1 (Yamaha)
China 2 (Ibanez)
Korea 2 (Epiphone, Hohner)
USA 2 (Gibson, The Heritage)

The list would have been bigger if I hadn't parted with some of the lovely guitars I used to own.  Sad
Don't you always regret selling them?  Face Palm

Interesting results so far. Usefully this proves that my collection is clearly way too small!

A couple of questions, Westbone I notice you have a guitar made in  the USSR, I am intrigued what is it, does it look fairly spartan and socialist?

And Barry, you have a Swedish guitar? You didn't just miss read the Ikae flat pack instructions and its actually supposed to be a garden chair?

The Swede would be a Hagstrom? And the Russian/Polish/Czech jobs are really cool in a weird way, I reckon...

Roll on Floor Laff

Nope, and nope.

It's a classical guitar, an original Goya, made in Sweden! Lovely little instrument, light as a feather, with a very big voice.
Here are the only (crappy) pictures I have handy:

Japan 4 All Westones

Canada 2 Simon and Patrick and an Art and Lutherie Acoustic

China 2 Busker Brass Bodied Resonator and Westfield parlour Acoustic

UK Guitars???

1960s produced Burns, Watkins, Wem etc
1970s produced Shergolds, Ned Callans, John Birch

And Gordon and Smith are still making very reasonably priced guitars in Manchester to this day.

I'd love a Gordon and Smith, the single pickup singlecut guitars are great looking and playing instruments
