New build...

Post by corsair on Thu Feb 02, 2017 7:57 pm

I have a hankering to build a guitar and have come up with this...

... P90 neck and a 4 conductor h/b bridge with a 5 way giving n, n +split b, b parallel, b series, and b split. Through body stringing and my usual mods.

Stumped for a finish. Best I can come up with is a Paisley, and that's just a bit naff... so; lets have whatever you've got people!!

So, uh, you're making a Tele Thinline, with a reverse headstock?

Love Thinlines.
Hate reverse headstocks, they always bugger me up when installing strings and tuning

Good on ya for diving in! My hero *sniff*

Wow, John... hats off to you man!

Quite versatile config and I'm personally in agreement with Barry on the headstock. I've a hard time with 3x3 let alone reverse. But it is to your comfort, right?

** cough ** Blue burst, Transblue,... heck.. anything blue-blue... and pointier Laughing  **cough**

Very cool project, cheers mate!

I know, right?! I love the "big" headstock and I don't have a reverse headstock; I think they're sexy as!!

Nope, Steve - not blueburst, or in fact blue of any kind; I have 2 bluebursts already and want this - if it goes ahead, mind! - to be quite different!

Funny enough just finishing two Thinlines off.
One's all but finished minus 2 screws and the others on the way.
One with a white pearl guard, one with a cream pearl. Standard Tele headstock.

That black paisley is pretty sweet, eh! I don't think I'll go there, but gee... it's nice!!Thanks, fellas - this may not go ahead if I can't find a finish I really like, but you get the idea. The h/b would be series/parallel/north coil/south coil, with combinations with the P90 available, so probably an Oak Grigsby 4 pole 5 way lever switch with pull pots on the volumes.... still thinking hard about it....

Yep; That's the fella, right there. They'll even do a non-routed body for me if I asked... however, I've only ever used a router on the Dremel - not sure about a proper plunge router!!

Hey Johnny...      Gold Top !
Messes with the natural history of the Gibson universe.
It would be unique, especially if you can get a variation/swirl/burst on it. Twisted Evil

(No mother-of-toilet-seat pick guard though.)

Perhaps.... Laughing

How about a white background with all kinds of geometric shapes and lines in a haphazard fashion, in bright colours...??
I have a niece who is a graphic designer. She is about to get a call from her favourite uncle....

Might be OK on a solid body *cough* Van Halen *cough*, but I don't think the F hole would work well in that scenario unless you get very swirly, Shirley. You OK?

No pickguard; backloaded, remember? I don't like pickguards... And I've had a good think about it and I realise I don't like goldtops, so that's put paid to that one!!

And yeah; the resemblance to the whole EVH thing had occured to me.... sadly....

All is not lost, however - Juliet is going to have a look at it for me!

I was doing a bit of research on something else, and as so often happens, I found something totally unrelated to that search but somewhat relative to this post!

Hey Johnny, if you have a hankerin' fer a cun-tree-fied paisley finish have a look at this interesting approach: LINK The technique might be handy for other artwork you have in mind.
