name that guitar ...

Post by monkey on Mon Dec 11, 2017 6:02 am

i've been trying to identify the guitar in this video ...

Pat Benatar - Le Bel Age

... i think it's a gibson, judging by what i can see of the headstock and inlays on the fingerboard.  can anyone be a bit more definitive?

just for my further edification, what's the difference between an ES330 and an ES335?

... so it is!

google wrote:Though similar in appearance to the popular Gibson ES-335 guitar, the ES-330 is quite different: the 330 is a fully hollow thinline guitar, not a semi-hollow guitar with a center block. Also, the 330 has two single-coil P-90 pickups, in contrast with the two humbuckers on the 335.

... but google does rather take the fun out of asking. personally, i hate machines. i'd much rather deal with a person that a piece of silicone.

so, if we're to believe that the ES330 had P90s, the one in the video is an ES335, because the pickups are clearly humbuckers?

It could be a 335 but in that case the Bigsby would likely be fastened to the centre
block behind the bridge. It wouldn't make much sense to fly the strings over the saddles and lose the sustain offered by the solid core.

The pickups may have simply been changed. Some misguided folks think a 'bucker is better than a P90. Evil or Very Mad The whole guitar may have been a custom order, considering the white colour is not standard either.

Ask about it on a Gibson forum you might get the answer.

there do appear to be gibson ES335 guitars with trapeze tailpieces.  as such, it could be either.
