'86 Spectrum SX (UK)

Post by DuoFuzz on Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:31 pm

Another Spectrum has appeared on FleaBay UK. This time we have THIS.

It all looks original and everything is there, the knobs and the locknut clamps especially although the trem arm is missing. There is a bit of rust on the bridge but nothing desperate.

My main concern would be with them paint cracks. The seller reckons the paint has shrunk but it's not something I've seen on Westones before?

They seem to join up the screw holes on the pickup surrounds and bridge posts, but importantly they don't go as far as the corners of the neck joint, the usual stress point on a bolt neck guitar. The only thing I can put it down to would be a freak paint reaction?

£29.99 Current Bid

DAN.

Geez, dontcha think that you'd want to clean something up before you offer it for sale?! If only to squeeze a bit more $$$ out of it?? Never fails to amaze me how many people want to sell me their dust and grud along with the guitar!

Oh, and Macsumoku?! "Over three billion served"

I am watching this guitar. The cracks do look a little scary though.
Seller does say it is only the finish.
And maybe the cracks will keep the price down and let me grab another westone? Would love another westone as a backup for my beloved prestige.

Would the trem arm off my prestige 227 work on this bridge?

Yeah, those cracks look like shock fractures...likely from dropping the guitar!

I would guess that it's just the finish that cracked and not the actual wood, or else you'd be bidding on two guitars!

Looks OK-ish; those cracks are a bit scary, though!! I'd love an SX, but in the red/blue....

This has an FT bridge; your Prestige - according to the .info - has a standard old strat type which may be the same thread but will be a different shape.

Hmm yeh think im gonna let this go. Those cracks are just too much for me.

Think I am going to wait for this guitar. Its not too far for me to pick it up and it looks good condition. And I would feel a little better if I end up paying a little more than i planned for it. Unlike the cracked spectrum.

Would my tremelo work better on that bridge?

Cool thnx Ill probably grab one from stewmac. I won the auction on the Spectrum DX! £97. But I am a lot happier paying that for this guitar. Looks great condition and no 'cracks'. Cant wait to go pick it up.

Ah I see, Im easily confused, looks like you got a good buy there.
Pot luck of having a pickup only offering close to home, I dont understand why sellers do this cos it generally results in a significantly lower price.

Yeh been playing with it overnight. His house was awkward to find Razz

But seems perfect condition. No rust. Tiny bit of buckle rash and one or two tiny scratches along the bottom. The Pots pull off a bit too easily. Locking nuts complete and tighten up nicely. I would say excellent condition for its age.

Plus the trem arm off my prestige seems to fit perfectly.

Not plugged it in yet but I have a rehearsal tonight so I will probably be using it there.

Will post pics of both my westy's next week.

Only problem is I really want a thunder now Razz
