Spectrum backplate and wang bar m/ments...

Post by corsair on Mon Jun 09, 2008 4:02 am

I suspect these will cover most spectrums and possibly even others as I checked the backplate against my Genesis backplate and it was close enough to spot on...

I doubt the steel is anodised (anodized), as anodization is typically used on aluminum and sometimes on other metals like titanium and magnesium.

Might the finish be a black oxide, or possibly a combination of chemical rust (oxide, parkerize (phosphate), bluing, etc.) and baked enamel? These finishes are common on steel.

True, thanks for that Colt! I'm picking that it's been electroplated and had brain fade when I was posting, hence the 'anodizing' comment! It's a pretty deep black and and I'm unsure exactly what method would have been used; I've hot and cold blued rifle actions and I'm reasonably sure it isn't that, so anyone have any ideas?? I've got one to make and it would be nice to know how to do it!! Very Happy

Cheers again corsair, you're a mine of Westone info Wink

Is there a significant difference in the size of the spring cover to that of the regular strat? I know you mentioned that the string holes were not in the same place.

No worries, bud - saddle sent today BTW - and I don't claim to know that much, and anything I do know is courtesy of the like of Colt, David and lots of others on this and other websites, plus my own research on my own guitars! I'm still learning, too!

The back cover, on my strat at least, is appreciably bigger in dimensions than the ST one I compared it to; but I would imagine making one would not be too onerous a task at all, really!! Good luck! Point of fact, I take 'em off and leave 'em off - you try feeding strings through those holes and up through the trem block; it's an exercise in frustration!! Very Happy
